Brett Batey defeated SJH line #3 player for our lone singles point, out of 9. Double faired better, picking up 5 additional sets, Cole Cisakowski with Gary Davidson taking 2 of 3, narrowly losing to the line #1 doubles, 4 - 6. Very bright spot today, was Brock Bowman with Zach Champine, who swept all 3 sets, earning them both MVP's of today's match. We will take a day off tomorrow and regroup next week,league play starts 2 weeks from today, vs SM.

Mission Viejo, CA — JSerra traveled to Saddleback CC to play our cross town rivals, St Margarets. The last time JSerra played here, we narrowly escaped with an epic CIF semi final battle, vaulting the Lions into their first ever CIF Championship game. Today offered a less dramatic scenario, but Coach was happy with the 13 to 5 victory. The Lions doubles teams swept 8 of the 9 sets played and singles added the additional 5. Lions duos sharing MVP honors are Brock Bowman with Zac Champine and Cole Cisakowski with Gary Davidson. The Tartans have a very formidable #1 singles player with a legitimate double digit UTR while their #1 doubles team was also strong...the scores don't show it, but, a few of the doubles sets could have gone either way. Logan Assad/Nicky Dubrow captured 2 sets, dropping their only set at line #1, 4-6. Brett Batey took 2 of 3 singles sets as did Jona Uhmans. "Our doubles combos are starting to jell" says Coach Orahood, and they will be well-tested Wednesday at home vs Portola then Thursday vs San Juan! Come out and join us! Go Lions!

San Juan Capistrano, CA — THE LIONS REMAIN UNDEFEATED IN THIS EARLY PORTION OF NONLEAGUE PLAY. WE STACKED OUR DOUBLES TODAY, WHICH WAS A GOOD PLAY AS WE SWEPT ALL 9 SETS, BROCK BOWMAN WITH ZACH CHAMPINE DID SO WITHOUT ALLOWING A SINGLE GAME.

Lake Forest, CA — JSerra 11 - 7 El Toro, victory. Doubles held the day, winning 7 sets this afternoon, singles picked up 4. #1 doubles team of Gary Anderson and Cole Cisakowski won all 3 sets played, earning MVP honors.

San Juan Capistrano, CA — 24 hours later, the Lions managed to pick up 2 more sets vs the Monarchs in this 6 - 12 setback.

Santa Ana, CA — The Lions traveled Danny Dayless to Los Cab to play the Monarchs and it was lopsided from the beginning. Mater Dei has the league's #2 player as well as 2 other strong singles. Brett Batey, after being disposed by Jake Huarte {grandson of 1964 Heisman Trophy winner, John Huarte) quickly regained his winning ways, with a 6 -2 victory vs line 2. Brett then was up 5-3 on the line 3 player, but couldn't hold on, losing 5-7.

Orange, CA — The Lions improved their effort vs OLu as the first match was 3 - 15. Danny Day was restricted to 1 set only, which he easily won. Brett Batey picked up 2 sets in singles and Jonah Uhmans, a SOP [sit out period] transfer from San Juan Hills picked up his first Trinity League win. Brock Bowman with Sean Delaney added a doubles set point. As far as the boys are concerned, and coach too, the Lancers are the strongest team in the league, although they lost to Santa Margarita by the same score we did, 8-10. JSerra finishes up league play with 3 straight matches next week, tues/wed/thurs; vs. Mater Dei, Mater Dei and SM respectively.

Anaheim, CA — Rematch results look the same, 8-10, but, not really, they were very promising. Missing our #1 player, who played in the first contest (limited to 2 doubles sets), we felt a little apprehensive. We got some great efforts from Brett Batey, sweeping 3 singles sets while Brock Bowman and Sean Delaney netted 2 sets. Nick Graham and Andrew Antonius also took 2 doubles sets, their lone loss, a 5-7 heart-breaker. Nicky Dubrow narrowly lost his last singles set 5-7, which was a big improvement from his first outing vs the Friars. Summing it up, we competed very well, let a couple of sets slip away, just need to learn how to close out sets when leading late.... The Lions are fielding 6 sophomores and 3 freshmen, our upside is looking great! Go Lions!!!

The Lions were in this match to the very end... with 2 matches still being played, the Lions were in pretty good shape for a 9-9 tie, but, couldn't capitalize in the end, dropping these last two sets in the end.

Irvine, CA — Very tight match, came down to last doubles set. Sean Delaney and Brock Bowman fought back from 1-4 deficit to get in to the heart-breaker at 6-6 and came up a couple of shots short, 5-7. This gave us a 4-4 tie, which was broken by the total game count of all 6 sets played... 38 JSerra to 44 Tesoro was the final count. The final scene was set by a comeback wins at #1 doubles, Andrew Antonius with Brett Batey, 7-5 and #3 doubles, Nick Graham with Ashkan Pakshir , 7-5. Brett Batey won a close tibreaker match in the #1 singles slot, 7-6, while Sean Delaney took care of business in the #4 singles slot, 6-3. The Lions were down 2-3 in sets going in to the doubles and the boys really competed well in the duo forum.
