Wichita, KS — 6A West is jumbled at the top. Wichita West finds itself in must win scenarios to even have a shot at hosting this year. The playoffs favor the top 4 teams, and currently the boys would have the toughest Regional traveling to Manhattan for the toughest matchups to have a shot at going to State. Here's a look at the current standings:

Wichita, KS — The Pioneers had no answers. They might have mustered 2 hits in an otherwise lackluster performance that included throwing errors and silent bats. The best threat came with vases loaded and 2 outs. Lurch got jammed at the plate but had enough power to clear the infield...only to gave the BC shortstop make a great diving catch to end the threat. Nico pitched well enough for the win: he just didn't have any offensive support.

Wichita, KS — Zeph battled tonight with 93 pitches and 5 Ks to spoil BCs thoughts of a sweep. In a change of pace move by Coach Hoover, he opted to throw his Ace game #2 tonight. Jeter had magical gloves behind him. Nico stabbed a fly foul ball and stopped a base hit and threw out the batter from his knees. After an error to start the top of the 7th by Robert, Brantly caught a liner with bases loaded and doubled off the BC runner at 3rd for some breathing room. Z gave up a 2 run bomb in the first for his most earned runs in a game since Spring Break. His ERA is still a stellar 0.83... A mark that will undoubtedly rank amongst the greatest pitching seasons in Pioneer history.

Wichita, KS — The last month has been fully of highs and lows for a team with high expectations. Splitting games in GWAL has been tough, but parody in the league has left the door open for these baseball boys to somehow have a chance at league and improve their seeding for the 6A West playoffs. Jeter has had a season worthy of Hall of Fame numbers. Skylar has really tagged the ball well at the plate. We need to find more consistency all-around and get the entire team hot at the right time: that time is now... that uniform will only be worn a few more times. Go get it done, Pioneers!

Wichita, KS — Nothing seemed to go right at all in the nightcap. 9 errors proved too costly for the guys to overcome against a fairly good team. The Pioneers are still searching for an identity. With the toughest two weeks in the season coming up, the boys need to figure out how to fix the deficiencies in the field and at the plate. That being said, there seems to be more parody in GWAL which isn't a bad thing. These hard lessons learned now can help them become battle tested for May.

Wichita, KS — Early season matchups have shown that there are no gimme wins in GWAL this year. KMC escaped with a 5-4 win over South, and BC squeezed out a 9-8 win over North. Heights has only 2 GWAL games played as they already completed their non-varsity schedule. Heights is 2-0 in league play, but 2-4 overall. These Falcons cannot be overlooked. Jeter has been stellar on the mound, but the boys have to improve at the plate and on defense. The base running woes appear to have been corrected for now. It's still early in the season, but these Pioneers (5-3, 5-1) can further establish themselves as a perennial state title contender if they take down Heights. The schedule only gets tougher from here.

Wichita, KS — The month of April provides a gauntlet for the Pioneers. Wichita Northwest has made a statement by sweeping KMC and circling this date to try and climb the GWAL ladder. Wichita West has a chance to not only remain in the top spot in League, but also start the month off with a statement of their own by keeping NW down and improving their seedings in 6A West.

Wichita, KS — West is taking on undefeated North this afternoon in a twilight double header at West Side. North (2-0) played 2 non-conference games in Oklahoma during Spring Break and represented GWAL very well. This is not your same old pushover North baseball team. The Pioneers will have to show up tonight.

Wichita, KS — The Pioneers feasted on timely hitting, HBP, and a Walk-A-Thon to gather runs in the 2nd and 3rd innings. Nico provided a great spark at pitcher in relief. Pinch hitters like Joey and Ridpath made the most of their opportunities. Country was a monster at the plate. Brantly and Robert made their best plate appearances tonight as well. Base running was still a sticking point like the first series at Shawnee Mission-Northwest as runners were thrown out or should have been, but there were many positives to take away from this DHer.

JCCC, KS — Coach Hoover didn't know what to expect going into this road trip. He said that the five seniors from last year had leadership and gritty play, and the Pioneers will have to search for those glue guys this year to keep an edge.

Wichita, KS — If our Pioneer baseball team takes care of business this Monday against Wichita South, then our boys will finish no worse than #2 in the 6A West Regional. If Manhattan loses any of their remaining 5 games, and West sweeps Wichita South, then Wichita West will capture the #1 seed. Statistically, Wichita West should still finish the season as having the best scoring offense and best scoring defense in Class 6A.

Valley Center, KS — West Pioneers Varsity defeated Kapaun Mt. Carmel 11-7 on Friday after taking the lead late in the game. West Pioneers Varsity was down 4-3 in the bottom of the fifth inning when Micah Dvorak doubled on a 0-2 count, scoring two runs.
