Irvine, CA — University High School battled last year’s CiF champion for 23 minutes and 40 seconds before things went south quickly and the Portola Bullfogs never looked back coasting to a 32-3 victory.

Aliso Viejo, CA — University on a hot and windy Saturday afternoon fell to Capo Valley Christian’s football team 35-7 at Aliso Viejo High School.

Anaheim, CA — Seniors Justin Tribble and Carl Oldham led University (4-6, 1-4) to a 35-14 victory over Katella (1-9, 0-5) Friday night at historic Glover Stadium. In the final night of Omicron League play, Tribble completed 11 of 14 passes for 201 yards and four touchdowns and a gaudy 159.2 MaxPreps QB rating. Tribble’s four scoring strikes is likely tied for third most touchdown passes by a Trojan in one game. Many other UHS quarterbacks have done this for Uni in the MaxPreps era, so he is in good company.

Irvine, CA — Visiting Woodbridge (3-6, 2-2) scored three touchdowns over the course of an eight-and-a-half minute period in the second half to upend University (3-6, 0-4), 19-14. The Trojans came out strong running the ball on Senior Night. Big runs by Seniors Damari Carter and Justin Tribble set up a five yard touchdown run by Diego Sosa to give the Trojans a 7-0 lead just over two minutes into the game. University couldn’t capitalize on three first half Woodbridge turnovers (two fumble recoveries by Senior Carl Oldham and an interception by Carter) and two trips to the red zone. After the second fumble, Uni was first and 10 at the Woodbridge 20-yard line. Carter took the ball around left end to the house and an apparent two touchdown lead, but a holding call reversed the score. Uni held a 7-0 lead at the half, but most felt the margin should have been bigger. As the MaxPreps AI algorithm might say, “don’t blame Oldham or Carter”.

Norwalk, CA — Uni went on the road and came away with a convincing 38-0 win vs the John Glenn Eagles of Norwalk. This was the Trojans third win in a row to improve their record to 3-2 before entering the five-game, newly formed Omicron League conference season.

Irvine, CA — The University High School Trojans improved to 1-2 on the season with a 13-6 home victory over the 2-1 Estancia Eagles Thursday night. Due to several key injuries, Uni employed a two-quarterback platoon allowing regular quarterback / athlete Justin Tribble to also play wide receiver and defensive back. In his first varsity start, Sophomore Dylan Elmer threw for 155 yards and his third successive game with a touchdown pass. Elmer drove Uni down the field on a 12-play, six-minute, 75-yard drive culminating in a 16-yard scoring strike to Junior wide receiver Cruz McMullens.

Irvine, CA — Uni fell 34-17 to a talented and highly regarded Capo Valley Christian Thursday night in our home opener. CVC won their opener last week and improved to 2-0. After Uni fell behind 20-0 with 7:30 to go in the first half, the young Trojans outscored the Eagles the rest of the way.

Irvine, CA — On Senior Day, 6 seniors were honored at Trojans Stadium with their families, cheerleaders and Irvine councilman in front of a packed house. Senior captain Michael Dougherty got the start and delivered with 7 strikeouts and a complete game shut out in a 7-0 win over league opponent Sage Hill. Dougherty also got 2 hits at the plate, while fellow captain catcher Alex Zive scored 2 runs. Senior centerfielder Aaron Millman drove in a run and scored a run for the Trojans.

Newport Coast, CA — Shay Eldridge made a game saving stop to allow the Trojans to force the game intro extra innings. Sophomore Brennan Collins started the pressure must win game and was able to limit Sage Hill to 4 runs through 5 innings.. Logan Rome came in and threw 3 innings with 0 ER in the 8-4 road victory.

Irvine, CA — Tri-Captain Austin Barnett held Northwood in check going the distance to throw a complete game, while giving up just 1 run and striking out four. Tri-captain senior catcher Alex Zive delivered in the clutch with 2 key hits and a RBI in the 3-1 victory for the Trojans over the Timberwolves.

Irvine, CA — Cooper Berger pitched a complete gsne allowing just 5 hits, 1 run, while fanning 9 in a 3-1 victory for UNI over Portola.

Laguna Hills, CA — Austen Barnett pitched a heck of a ball game going 6 innings, allowing 2 runs and striking out 6. Meanwhile, Logan Rome came in a pressure packed situation with the bases loaded and shut down Laguna Hills to earn the save and preserve a 5-2 victory. Rome had got the save previously at Laguna Hills as well and the victory secured the Trojans winning the season series against the Hawks.

Irvine, CA — Sophomore Cooper Berger tossed a complete game victory along with driving in a key game tying 2 RBI hit in a 3-2 victory.

Irvine, CA — Junior Co-Captain pitcher Austen Barnett tossed 6 scoreless innings leading the Trojans over the Darts in Game 3 of the Ryan Lemon Spring Invitational. #9 Barnett fanned 10 and held Davis to 4 hits in the 5-2 victory. Alex Zive banged out 2 hits while Riven Ruhanage knocked in 2 RBIs in the victory.

Irvine, CA — Senior Co-Captain Michael Dougherty pitched 5 innings for the Trojans limiting the Vanguards to 2 runs in the Great Park Spring Invitational. #6 Dougherty also got the walk off game winning hit with a liner to right field in the bottom of the extra inning 8th scoring pinch runner Shay Eldridge from second base for the 4-3 victory.

Irvine, CA — Co-Captain Austen Barnett kept the high charging Beckman Patriots scoreless for 5 and 2/3 innings in a 1-0 victory. Despite an outstanding effort by Patriot pitcher Zach Ireland, who only gave up 1 hit, the Trojans were able to push the go ahead winning run by Riven Ruhunage who scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the 6th. Logan Rome secured the win helped by a spectacular heads up play by shortstop Luke Weston. Third baseman Chase Nguyen fielded a ground ball and touched the bag for the final out.

Laguna Hills, CA — In a pitcher’s dual, the Trojans edged out the Sea Hawks in 10 innings winning 2-1. Austin Barnett tossed 0 unearned runs (1 total run), 7 Ks for the first 6 and Logan Rome kept the Hawks scoreless in the last 4, 3Ks to seal the win. Shay Eldridge pinch runner scored the key tie run in the 7th and Micheal Dougherty crossed the plate for the go ahead run in the 10th before Rome shut Laguna Hills down in their last attempt. Riven Ruhunage was credited for 3 hits and a rbi.

Baltimore Oriole Hall of Famer Doug DeCinces started the day speaking to the players in the newly renovated Players Area. 2023 Varsity Players displayed their new uniforms in lineup announcements and Vice Principal Pate threw out the ceremonial first pitch.
