Lady Tigers Regional Recap – 2026 Northern Nevada Regional Qualifier

Sparks, NV — This past weekend, the Lady Tigers traveled to Reed High School to compete in the 2026 Northern Nevada Regional Qualifier, where the top four finishers in each weight class earned a ticket to the State Tournament. Competing against 35 teams over two days, Douglas High made its presence felt from start to finish.

Winnemucca, NV — This week the Varsity squad hit the road to Winnemucca for the Cody Louk Invitational, squaring off against tough competition from Eastern Nevada, several local programs, and a team out of Oregon. The Young Tigers didn’t back down every match was earned, and every round brought valuable lessons.

Fallon, NV — The first varsity outing of the season is in the books, and our crew jumped straight into the deep end at the Fallon Duals. Ten duals over two days meant plenty of mat time, plenty of pressure, and plenty of opportunities to grow. Minden, NV — The Douglas Tiger Wrestling Team is proud to recognize Ella Kavanagh as this week’s Wrestler of the Week! Ella delivered an outstanding performance at the Northern Regional Championships this past weekend at McQueen High School, securing the 105-pound title and proving once again that she is one of the top wrestlers in the state.

Sparks, NV — The Douglas High School girls' wrestling team traveled to Reed High School for the annual Nevada Queens Tournament, eager to compete against some of the best athletes in the state. Representing Douglas, the team stepped onto the mat with five wrestlers, each determined to make an impact in what would prove to be a challenging and competitive event. After a day of tough competition, the Douglas squad left with a total of three medals, marking a strong performance at the tournament.

Winnemucca, NV — This past weekend, the Douglas Varsity Boys' wrestling team took the road trip to Winnemucca, Nevada, for the highly competitive Cody Louk Invitational Tournament. And while the competition was fierce, the Douglas squad stood tall, finishing 6th out of 28 teams—a fantastic accomplishment for the team!

Tigers Finish Season Strong

Winnemucca, NV — This past weekend the Wrestling team sent 15 wrestlers to the State tournament. 12 Boys competed in the 5A State Championship, and 3 Ladies battled in the first ever All Girls State Championship. These athletes tallied up 14 total wins, 7 coming by way of pin and Finished the tournament with 2 Medalists. Congratulations to Aaron Tekansik for taking the podium with a 4th Place Medal. And the First ever Girl to Medal from Douglas in the Nevada State Wrestling Tournament is Ella Kavanagh also a 4th place medal. Congratulations to all the Wrestlers and your hard work this season.

Reno, NV — So proud of these young lady wrestlers! In our first ever Northern Regional Girls Tournament we had 3 ladies earn hardware and secure a spot in the State Tournament! We took 5 wrestlers into today and had 2 secure Second place and 1 Third! Hard Work Pays off!!!! Congratulations Ladies!

Tigers Rock it in Fernley!

Fernley, NV — Tigers placed 4th as a team this weekend at the Vaquero classic and that only begins to tell the story of a team that nursed their bumps, bruises and ailments to earn 8 medals. Dalton Nixon Pinned quickly in his final match to pick up 5th place. Placing 4th Ella, Gunnar, Victor, and Caine they each had to overcome their own adversity in this tournament to have their best showings of the season. Jaxon Nixon took a 3rd place victory over an opponent that knocked him down to consolation in the Quarterfinals. Topping off the Tiger bling are Aaron and Sage earning some hard fought 2nd Place medals. This is the final Varsity tournament of the season and give the Tigers some positive lessons to take in to Carson Week!

Reno, NV — This weekend the Varsity boys and girls teams embarked on the Journey to one of the toughest tournaments in the Nation. Some brackets had over 64 wrestlers and all had a lot of the top talent in the nation. Our wrestlers not only learned a lot on the mat but also off. Staying ready and mentally prepared for the next match was the theme for all wrestlers. With a lot of experience gained from this tournament we are ready to get back in the practice room to work even harder to achieve that next level! We walk away from this tournament with a new team motto…

Winnemucca, NV — Tigers pinned 35 opponents in Winnemucca this weekend. The Varsity team finished the tournament in 5th place with a lot of tough competition. Seven wrestlers reached the podium for Douglas.

Tigers Show Grit in Opening Tournament

Fallon, NV — This week the Varsity Tigers traveled to Fallon for the Churchill County Dual tournament. The faced Fallon, Truckee, Sparks, Fernley, and Elko in the Dual Matches. As a team the went 3-2 for the day. A lot of stand out matches as Bliss Moody won her First Varsity match at 132lbs, Kai Blumenthal, Kolton Zinn, Sage Adie had 5 victories on the day at 138, 150, and 215 respectively. Freshman Jasmine Tamondong and Gunnar Bleeker led the charge at 106 and 113 and had some great matches. Captains Victor Reyes, Jaxon Nixon, and Aaron Tekansik battled in some tough matches and set the tone for the season. A great opening tournament for the Tigers and we are looking forward to traveling to Winnemucca for the Cody Louk Invitational!
