A. Great Night of Racing at Crystal Mountain!
Thompsonville, MI — “We are reaching the part of the season where we are really seeing some great skiing and our guys are working hard to prepare for Regionals. We are getting closer to where we want to be when we race at Cannonsburg on Feb 10th. Tonight, we had a few mistakes but whenever someone had a rough run there was someone there to pick up the points to help the team. I really see everyone skiing with the team mentality and also having the speed to score when we need then them most” Coach Petrosky “DJ has been leading the way for the boys team and I hope that the underclassman are learning from his example. He focuses on his runs and then focuses on how he can help his team have the best runs possible.”

Thompsonville, MI — "It is nice to have three races under our belt this season, despite the slow start to winter followed by last week's big storm and now a big warm up. The move north has really paid off in skiing, training and racing opportunities for our athletes. This week's warm weather and rain has a lot of resorts shut down but Crystal Mountain had great conditions for our race tonight. Our conference even had a guest race with us, Clare High School." Coach Petrosky, "Tonight we saw a lot of great skiing from our guys and the skiers from out opponents, which makes being at a ski race a ton of fun. The snow was very fast and it provided for some exciting runs and some spectacular crashes"

A Great Finish to the Season! 2nd Place at the Caledonia Invitational
Thompsonville, MI — Friday the Scots traveled north to Crystal Mountain to start what is planned to be a new tradition for the team, the Caledonia Invitational. "The weather at home has just not cooperated, we have only been able to hold two conference races and I wanted more for my skiers so I looked into moving our final conference race to Crystal Mountian but there were scheduling conflicts with most of the teams in the SWMSC. At that point, I decided to book the race and invite a group of teams that we race against during the season. Plainwell TK was the only conference school that could make the date work and we were excited to introduce them to the Invitational experience and enjoy racing with Benzie Central, Onekama, Maple City Glenn Lake and Grand Rapids Christian---which is a pretty tough field of teams. GR Christian qualified both of its teams for the State Finals and there were a bunch of State Finals Individual qualifiers on the teams that attended the race. Our main goal was to make sure that everyone's JV or B Teams has one more chance to race and we were successful."

Belmont, MI — Saturday started out cold but sunny as the Scots headed to Cannonsburg to race in the Norm's GS Invitational, a new format for a race that has been a foundation of the racing community in the Grand Rapids area. This year, the race had a team focus instead of a grade level individual focus which was a welcome change for all of the team that have been struggling to reach the four start threshold for Regional eligibility.

Boys Team Finishes 2nd in SWMSC
Gobles, MI — "We were excited to ski Wednesday night after the warm up and rain, it had looked like our season was going to be cut short but the cold snap allowed our conference to get its final race in. My skiers did a great job under very challenging conditions, it was pure ice! You will rarely hear any of my skiers using the work Icy but that is the only way to describe the slope conditions at this race." Coach Petrosky "All season long Tyler Dean and Ben DeGood have been leading our team and they did it again tonight, Tyler's 4th in slalom and 6th in GS led us in both events and Ben's 7th in GS and 8th in slalom helped set the tone for our team."

The Scots Boys Team Wins the Battle for Bittersweet
Otsego, MI — "Our guys came out tonight and did a great job finishing strong on a busy week of racing. We started last Friday at Crystal Mountain, traveled to Schuss Mountain on Monday, won our conference meet Wednesday and pulled off a win in a non-conference meet against all the team that train at Bittersweet Ski Area with us" Coach Petrosky "We have been wanting to have race with who we share the hill with for a couple years and made it happen Thursday night." "We ran the race on our timer and had an issue getting times but after a call to the tech support in Utah, we figured a way to finalize what was a very fun race for everyone involved. "Tonight, our clump was as strong as ever, even though we were missing two starters, which is great sign for our team moving forward."

Consistent Skiing Leads the Scots to 1st SWMSC Win of the Season
Otsego, MI — "This is one of the mentally toughest group of skiers I have coached! Nothing seems to change how they ski. Tonight, our speed and consistency helped us get past a very good Mattawan/Paw Paw team for our first conference victory of the season. Tyler Dean and Ben BeGood have been trading off leading our team all season and their leadership on and off the slopes has helped these guys start to reach their potential as we are preparing for Regionals"Coach Petrosky "Right now we have eight guys that are skiing great and are going to get a chance to help the team at Regionals, it is exciting to see these guys continue to push themselves to see how fast they can be."

Second Place for the Scots at their first home meet.
Otsego, MI — "We really skied well again tonight but just could not get enough extra speed to get past Mattawan/Paw Paw! Our guys really knocked down some great runs at this meet and I am proud of their efforts on an extremely cold night. Ben DeGood and Tyler Dean traded off leading the team in each event and the rest of our starters chipped in to help when a team mate had a rough run. Our team is so balanced that if we drop a skier due to a DQ or DNF our next guy is there with a very similar time--the Caledonia Clump, as we call it pushes our opponents back in the overall helping keep our score low. Our challenge is that Mattawan is grabbing enough of the top placements we are not blocking them out like in the past." Coach Petrosky "I am extremely proud of the effort that my guys are making and our goal is continue to push ourselves and close the gap on a very fast Mattawan team."
