Harbor Springs, MI — David Potgeter competed in his final high school race at The Highlands Monday. DJ, as most of the team refers to him, has had an incredible career which featured earning two trips to compete in the State Finals. There has only been one other male skier that has made multiple trips to compete in the State Finals, which puts him in some elite company.

Thompsonville, MI — Wednesday afternoon was the Lake Michigan Ski Conference’s Championship race, which provided medals for the top ten skiers in both events and also announced this year’s All Conference Skiers at the awards ceremony following the race. The LMSC names its top fifteen skiers, using a World Cup points system, All Conference and the Scots had nine skiers earn the honor.

Thompsonville, MI — At Crystal Mountain Wednesday night, David Potgeter placed first in giant slalom. Very few skiers win events and he is only the 7th Caledonia Boys Ski Team member to win a giant slalom event. DJ’s run set the tone for the team with Aidan Brown taking 5th place, Peter Calhoun placing 7th and Derick Pritchard finishing out the scorers with a 10th place. The boys team took 2nd in slalom.

Mancelona, MI — “Monday we traveled to Schuss and had big expectations for the race. We have been skiing well and hoped to build some momentum as we get closer our regional race but got off to a slow start. We had a climb and a couple DNFs in GS, which pushed us way back in the points after the first event. At the break, we talked about having to focus on one run at a time to finish the race on a positive note and the guys did!” Coach Petrosky “DJ led the way in the afternoon slalom event earning a medal in 6th place and everyone finished their runs with great times, which allowed our team to finish 3rd in slalom.”

Gaylord, MI — The Scots traveled to the Otsego Club Friday for the Grayling Slalom Hootenanny, which was held in Gaylord at the iconic resort. The Otsego Club was a private, members only golf and ski club until 4 years ago so very few people have ever skied or raced there.

Thompsonville, MI — “We are reaching the part of the season where we are really seeing some great skiing and our guys are working hard to prepare for Regionals. We are getting closer to where we want to be when we race at Cannonsburg on Feb 10th. Tonight, we had a few mistakes but whenever someone had a rough run there was someone there to pick up the points to help the team. I really see everyone skiing with the team mentality and also having the speed to score when we need then them most” Coach Petrosky “DJ has been leading the way for the boys team and I hope that the underclassman are learning from his example. He focuses on his runs and then focuses on how he can help his team have the best runs possible.”

Thompsonville, MI — The Caledonia boys ski team got off to a great start at the Invitational that was against Mt Pleasant, Clare, Harrison, Grand Rapids Christian, Onekama, Glenn Lake and Grayling by placing second in giant slalom and ended up 3rd in the final standings for the meet. The Potgeter brothers led the way in giant slalom with David Potgeter setting the pace for Caledonia by taking the 2nd place medal and, freshman, Jake Potgeter placing just out of the medals with a 16th place finish.

Thompsonville, MI — The Lake Michigan Ski Conference held its second meet of the season on Wednesday January 15th and Caledonia skied to a solid 2nd place finish. The Scots placed second in both GS and SL at the meet.

Cadillac , MI — (An error was found in the scoring which moved our team up in the standings)

Thompsonville, MI — Wednesday evening kicked off the Caledonia ski racing season and the Scots had an impressive performance, finishing 2nd Place behind a stacked Glenn Lake Co-op Team. Glenn Lake won GS by 14 points and snuck by Caledonia with one less point.

Harbor Springs, MI — Monday February 26th was the State Finals for Division 2 Skiing at Nubs Nob. Caledonia's DJ Potgeter qualified and raced representing Caledonia.

Thompsonville, MI — "Friday may have had the best conditions we have seen all season, it helped our Invitational run smoothly and even a little ahead of schedule. Crystal Mountain has really supported ski racing and help our team have an incredible season. We are very happy with the move north and are excited about the future of our team at Crystal Mountain."

Cadillac , MI — "It has been a big year for our team, we have had a lot to be happy about with the move north and DJ Potgeter qualifying for the State Finals is one more thing to add to the list. He is the first skier to make it to the finals since 2020 and we are excited to see him ski at Nubs Nob on Monday Feb 26th. DJ is a talented skier, a hard worker and everything paid off for him Monday at Caberafe when he finished 10th in Slalom. He earned a medal and the chance to race both disciplines at the State Finals"

Thompsonville, MI — Heading into Wednesday's two conference races the Scots were in third and 81 points behind Glen Lake and ended the day ahead of them to finish 2nd their first year in the Lake Michigan Ski Conference. The first race of the day set momentum that built info our conference's Championship race in the afternoon.

Mancelona, MI — The Caledonia boys ski team continues to build momentum leading into their conference championship race and regionals with a solid 5th place finish. The ski team competed Monday in the Clare Invitational, an 11 team meet featuring some great teams from around the state. The meet was held on the Face at Schuss Mountain.

Thompsonville, MI — Monday, the Caledonia Ski Team competed in the Bryan Groenevelt Memorial Invitational Race hosted by the Benzie Central Ski Team at Crystal Mountain. The race memorializes a ski racer that tragically passed away while racing at Crystal Mountain.

Thompsonville, MI — Friday the Scots traveled north to Crystal Mountain to start what is planned to be a new tradition for the team, the Caledonia Invitational. "The weather at home has just not cooperated, we have only been able to hold two conference races and I wanted more for my skiers so I looked into moving our final conference race to Crystal Mountian but there were scheduling conflicts with most of the teams in the SWMSC. At that point, I decided to book the race and invite a group of teams that we race against during the season. Plainwell TK was the only conference school that could make the date work and we were excited to introduce them to the Invitational experience and enjoy racing with Benzie Central, Onekama, Maple City Glenn Lake and Grand Rapids Christian---which is a pretty tough field of teams. GR Christian qualified both of its teams for the State Finals and there were a bunch of State Finals Individual qualifiers on the teams that attended the race. Our main goal was to make sure that everyone's JV or B Teams has one more chance to race and we were successful."

Belmont, MI — Tuesday was a beautiful springlike day, one that would have been perfect for a baseball game or track meet but it was also Valentines day and the MHSAA Region 5 Ski Meet at Cannonsburg. East Grand Rapids did a great job hosting the race and an even better job keeping the slope conditions as good as possible in the 55 degree temperature.

Belmont, MI — "We were invited to the Wooden Shoe Tuesday and we have been so busy I wasn't sure if the kids were up to racing in it or not so we had a meeting and the response was an enthusiastic yes! The only thing that I heard was that a few of my guys were competing in the Regional Robotics competition and were a little bummer that they could not be in two places at once (they took second and are going to States---Yeah!)." Coach Petrosky " It is exciting to work with athletes that love their sport and want to race. We had just returned from a long trip and they have a dance later today but they showed up and did their best when they could have said they didn't want to race and slept in on Saturday knowing we are heading back north Sunday to train all day for Regionals---these kids are dedicated"

Mancelona, MI — "Our past few weeks have been crazy! Four invitationals, hundreds of miles traveled to train and race, two conference races and a bunch of late nights. Our whole season has been condensed due to the lack of winter weather and we been taking advantage of every opportunity to train and race to prepare for our regional race which is February 14th". Coach Petrosky "We raced at Cannonsburg Saturday, traveled north Sunday to train at Schuss and then raced on Monday and our boys did a great job! We finished third in a tough field of teams from central and northern Michigan that included Mt. Pleasant, who was ranked 8th in the state in the preseason rankings and may move up in the rankings when they are released next week."

Belmont, MI — Saturday started out cold but sunny as the Scots headed to Cannonsburg to race in the Norm's GS Invitational, a new format for a race that has been a foundation of the racing community in the Grand Rapids area. This year, the race had a team focus instead of a grade level individual focus which was a welcome change for all of the team that have been struggling to reach the four start threshold for Regional eligibility.

Otsego, MI — Wednesday night, the Scots raced in another conference meet but this time it was at Bittersweet.

Gobles, MI — The South West Michigan Ski Conference's season kicked off Monday and the Scots had a great performance. Caledonia took 2nd place at the meet and was pretty close to Mattawan's meet winning performance.

Thompsonville, MI — Caledonia's ski teams traveled north last Sunday to train and stayed north to race on Monday in the Bryan Groenevelt Memorial Invitational at Crystal Mountain. The race honors Bryan Groenevelt who tragically died while ski racing at Crystal Mountain several years ago and is hosted by Benzie Central High School.

Cadillac , MI — "One of our team goals is to finish in the top three at all of the Invitationals that we compete in and we achieved the first part of that goal at the Cadillac Invitational on Friday. We knew that there were some great teams at this race. Mattawan Paw/Paw entered the race ranked 7th in the state, Mt. Pleasant was ranked 8th in state and Cadillac is always one of the best teams in the state, so we knew that this would be a great way to see where our team is at the start of the season." Coach Duane Petrosky "Our guys came out and really skied well today and we are super proud of all of their efforts! Tyler Dean medaled in both events (6th Slalom and 10 GS) and Sean Rice ended in the top five in a very tough field in GS (5th)."

Gobles, MI — "We were excited to ski Wednesday night after the warm up and rain, it had looked like our season was going to be cut short but the cold snap allowed our conference to get its final race in. My skiers did a great job under very challenging conditions, it was pure ice! You will rarely hear any of my skiers using the work Icy but that is the only way to describe the slope conditions at this race." Coach Petrosky "All season long Tyler Dean and Ben DeGood have been leading our team and they did it again tonight, Tyler's 4th in slalom and 6th in GS led us in both events and Ben's 7th in GS and 8th in slalom helped set the tone for our team."

Mancelona, MI — Schuss Mountain is over 500 feet of steep and one of Michigan's premiere High School racing site. The Scots were there Monday to race in the inaugural Clare Invitational. The race featured two of the top ten teams in the state and the Scots skied well enough to end up 4th in the field of 8 team.
